Science will offer you a different reason for explaining as to why the evergreen trees never lose their leaves. But the legend of Christmas Stories explains beautifully why the evergreen trees never lose their leaves. Here goes the story.
Not much time was left for the winter to come and bathe the world with its snow! It was time for the birds to fly down to the south in search of a warm weather and a cozy shelter. However one tiny bird had broken its wings. Alone it stood in the cold weather.

Winter was only a few days away. Its friends could not wait for the bird to recover so they left in hurry wishing it good luck! Flying with broken wings is not easy still the bird had to try before the harsh winter came with its chilling blades.
So the tiny bird rushed to the birch tree. It requested the lean birch tree to lend one of its branches and provide a shelter to the bird. But selfish as the birch is, it refused the tiny bird out right. The upset little bird thought to herself “Perhaps the birch is not strong enough to hold me, I must try elsewhere!” With winter just days away the great Oak Tree would be a perfect choice thought the bird. However the Oak too refused the tiny bird. The Oak thought that the little bird would eat up all its acorns and folded up its green leaves away from the bird.
With broken wings it was impossible for the bird to fly for longer hours, yet it approached the willow tree in search of a shelter. The willow replied harshly “ We willows are never friendly with strangers. Go away! You will get nothing from me!” Heartbroken, the tiny bird began to fly as much as it could. The approaching North Winds had already begun to freeze its wings. At such a time the Spruce, the Pine and the Juniper Tree came to the help of the tiny bird. The Pine promised to keep the harsh northerly winds away from the bird. The Juniper offered its sweet berries to the bird and Spruce tree offered a warm cozy shelter to the ailing bird. That night winter came and played a havoc. All the trees lost their leaves but the frost King strictly instructed the wind not to attack the trees that chose to help the distressed bird. Since then the evergreen trees never lose their leaves.
