During the rule of Caesar Augustus in Rome, an order was passed by the Emperor stating that all citizens must register themselves for a new tax. Joseph and Mary, who were then living in Nazareth, began their journey to Bethlehem. During this time, Mary was carrying a child, conceived after the prediction of an angel, the expected child being the Son of God and He was to be named Jesus. They reached Bethlehem after many days and tired, hungry, Joseph began to look for a place to stay. Till an innkeeper took mercy on them and asked them to find shelter on one of the caves up in the hills. Joseph and Mary finally took shelter in a stable in one of the caves. The next night the baby was born, whom they lovingly put in a crib made of hay. Meanwhile, an angel appeared to a group of shepherds, declaring that the savior of men, Lord Christ, had been born, thus directing them towards the stable.
Away in distant lands, three kings followed the brightest star in the sky and they reached the cave in Bethlehem. These three kings were Caspar, the King of Tarsus, Melchior, the king of Arabia and Balthazar, the leader of Ethiopia. They brought with them gold, frankincense and myrrh, as tribute for the Christ child.
The Story of Christmas and the Christ Child is one of the most read stories throughout the world. Symbolizing joy, love and hope, the festival of Christmas means spreading good wishes among family and friends in gratitude to God for the birth of the Lord Jesus.
