Red Boots for Christmas is an inspiring story that highlights the true essence of Christmas and the custom of gifting each other. This Christmas story is set in a small town in Germany called Friedensdorf. Red Boots for Christmas revolves around a grouchy, grumpy and rather lonely, shoemaker called Hans who does not believe in Christmas and in gifts. While the whole village celebrates Christmas with lights, carol singing and by giving loving presents to each other, Hans shuts himself in his shop and keeps repairing other peoples' shoes all through the Christmas.

There are others in the village such as Gretchen, an old, poor lady, and her grand daughter, Elsa, who earn their living by collecting twigs, Brigetta the newspaper seller, Frederick, the mailman who enjoys distributing Christmas cards during the season, the Mayor, a kind and an important man in the town, and Adelaide, the Mayor's daughter, a rather pampered girl who also learns an important lesson in this story. Red Boots for Christmas is a story of how Hans changes this Christmas and learns that it is in giving that one shows his or her gratitude to God for giving people the best gift He could, namely, Christ the Savior.
The story sets off when one night Hans is visited by an angel who predicts he will receive a great gift from God. This makes Hans ponder that even he should return a gift to God. So he starts preparing day and night one of the finest boots in the town, made from the best red leather and handmade silver nails and silver bells. Once they are done, he displays them on his window, but refuses to sell them to anybody. Meanwhile in anticipation of having God for dinner, he also lovingly cooks on the afternoon of the Christmas eve. But God never came. Instead he shares his dinner with Frederick, Brigetta and the Mayor. Christmas eve came and went, but God did not come. Then the angel reappears and tells him that he has already been gifted with Christ. That is his gift from God. This moves Hans and he gives away the red boots to Elsa, who had been wearing rotten shoes in the cold until then. This also moves Adelaide and she too gives away one of her most favorite gifts to Elsa.
Red Boots for Christmas revolves around the essence of giving to others. It is in giving that we express our love for God and for Christ the Savior.
