The Pine Tree

|
The Pine Tree was written by Kim Ronyoung. In the story a pine tree has been presented as leading a life of great dissatisfaction. Although the tree was exposed to fresh air and round him grew many big comrades, pines and firs still the pine tree was least happy and he wanted to be like other grown up trees. He was always crowded with children but he was least happy at all these. He always wished t be like other big trees. He used to compare his life with other trees. The Pine Tree would never become happy of the warm sun and the fresh air neither he cared for the little children who use to gather around him and prattled while looking for the wild strawberries and raspberries.

The children use to admire The Pine Tree but that could hardly make him happy. Gradually year after year The Pine Tree grew in size. Still the poor tree longed for becoming like other trees. He used to think that if he becomes completely spread up he could spread up his branches tops look out into the wide world. During the winter, when snow all around was glittering, a hare would often come leaping along, and jump right over the little Tree. That made him so angry two more winters passed and now the tree was quite bigger and thicker. Now the tree had become so big that the hare had to go round it.
During the autumn the woodcutters would cut some of the largest trees. This would happen every year and The Pine Tree would feel very scared at the sight. The tree enquired about his companions from the swallow and the stork replied that I met many new ships as I was flying from Egypt; on the ships were splendid masts, and I dare say it was they that smelt so of pine. I wish you joy, for they lifted themselves on high in fine style!” Hearing this The Pine Tree again lamented saying “Oh, were I but old enough to fly across the sea!”
Seeing the condition of The Pine Tree the sunbeams said "Rejoice in thy youth, rejoice in thy hearty growth, and in the young life that is in thee!" but the poor tree did not understand at all.
