A Blue Christmas is the story of a young gentleman named Paul who lost his wife Nelly and child Johny in an accident. There after the meaning of Christmas changed for him , as it became very difficult for him to spent Christmas without them. His mother, Mrs. Wilson lived all alone in an apartment and wished him to join her during Christmas. But Paul was too down to come out of his shell. He opted to stay alone during Christmas. Mrs. Wilson understood her son's mental state of mind and didn't force him to come over. She however told him that if he ever felt the need to spent some time with her, she will be always there waiting for him. She was listening to the Christmas carol, but didn't continue with it any longer. She was feeling extremely lonely. After dinner she fell asleep.
Later at night, Mrs. Wilson was awakened by strange sounds that came from the living room. To her astonishment, it was Paul standing in front of her. He came to join her during the Christmas time as he felt that Christmas is all about spending time with family and not without them. Mrs. Wilson was overjoyed. She offered him some apple pie and ice-cream. While having the food they fondly remembered Nelly and Johny who were very close to them. After a good night's sleep, Paul got up in the morning to the smell of his favorite Christmas breakfast cooking, pea meal bacon and eggs. This was later complimented with Turkey. Paul was overjoyed with the gesture and felt good about Christmas. He wished his mother Merry Christmas which was reciprocated by Mrs. Wilson too ! May be it was not the best Christmas for them but it brought them closer during really hard time.
