Joseph's Letter Home

Joseph's Letter Home is a Christmas story written by Dr. Ralf F Wilson. This story is actually a letter written by a son to his mother. And the son is no other than Joseph, the legal husband of Virgin Mary, who gave birth to Jesus Christ. He wrote this letter while he was in Bethlehem, after Christ's birth. This letter is a candid confession on explaining and describing his mental state when he came to know the fact that his beloved Mary had conceived a child of an unknown person other than Joseph himself. As Joseph and Mary were betrothed earlier, he got a severe shock while facing the truth. He admits in this letter that, he even thought to divorce Mary for betraying him in this way. But, as everybody knows, he did not do so. In this letter or in this story, Joseph also explained the truth behind accepting Mary as his wife.

Dr. Ralf F Wilson expressed in the Joseph's Letter Home, the actual incident through the confession of Joseph, 'The trouble started after we were betrothed and signed the marriage agreement at our engagement. That same spring Mary had left abruptly to visit her old cousin Elizabeth in Judea. She was gone three whole months. After she got back, people started wondering out loud if she were pregnant.' As Dr. Wilson wrote, drawn by this rumor, Joseph asked Mary about the acceptability of what everybody was speaking of. It is not very strange that, Mary did not deny the truth. But she did not want to name the person of her child. She only expressed her sheer affection for Joseph,' "There's no way I can explain. You couldn't understand. But I want you to know I've never cared for anyone but you." She got up, gently took my hands in hers, kissed each of them as if it were the last time she would ever do that again, and then turned towards home. She must have been dying inside. I know I was.'

According to the Joseph’s Letter Home, one night, while thinking of leaving Mary on her own fortune, an angel came to Joseph and said, "Joseph, son of David," he thundered, "do not fear to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit." Naturally, Joseph couldn't believe his ears. The angel continued, "She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." Then, in the morning, Joseph decided to marry Mary denying his mother's objection. And, he did so. And that's why, though foster, he is known as the father of Jesus Christ. So, this story, Joseph’s Letter Home is not only a Christmas story, but also a valid document of the history and Christ's birth. But the name of Christ's biological father is still remains unknown.
